Dems Might Pull This Thing Off

If the polls are to be believed, which is a stretch for most, it would appear that the Dems are inching themselves forward essentially by the GOP shooting themselves in the foot with their 2nd amendment rights. I recall, vividly, how the polls were not terribly accurate in 2020 and definitely were not accurate in 2024. Here we are again, asking people how they “would” vote or if they were “likely to vote” in the upcoming election. The bottom line though is that what a person does in the booth doesn’t have to be defended like they usually do when answering poll questions. I’ve had a theory that polls are only as good as the questions being asked, meaning that if questions are skewed to one side or the other, the answers are predictable and are then used to confirm the survey’s underlying bias. They’re supposed to be more accurate than that, but the human factor consistently gets in the way. If I were a GOP supporter, I would be hiding it right now because that just isn’t a popular position. It’s the reason I have not flown my flag since 11/2024 when Orangina won the election. I doubt I will fly it before Jan 2029 at this point, the flag is a GOP banner in my part of the country.

I see too much evidence, with my own eyes, that politics itself is corrupt to the core. Five decades of fiscal policy closely tied to “trickle down” economics is an abject failure in my opinion. This system has enabled a wealth transfer to the top 1% (20% of the population controls 80% of the wealth) that historically is unprecedented. Economic reform is absolutely required to overhaul the entire system from top to bottom. Limiting campaign finance donations, forbidding stock trades as an elected official, reinstating multiple bank regulations to stabilize the economy, etc. It’s a long slog, in the snow, with no shoes, uphill both directions. Grandpa would be proud for me using the “back in my day” line. When 80% of the country is tired of carrying the wealthy on their backs, it will be revolt across the country. We’re seeing that start right now with GOP strongholds turning into competitive battlegrounds with previous battlegrounds being abandoned. I never thought Texas would elect a Democrat, but here we are potentially about to see that happen since 1988.

Personally, I’ve been trying to dig out of debt for more than a decade and every time I get close to that reality, something happens that pulls me back down. I doubt it’s being engineered at me, but the system is rigged against us normal people to get out from under crushing debt. It’s the debt system, with it’s stupid interest, that is causing this to happen and it won’t change from the banks or credit companies as we’re seen as their cash cows. No money to buy food, use credit. No money to buy clothes, use credit. No money to fill your car up, use credit. The non-wealthy hamster wheel of life is spinning out of control. I’m a the point where I ask if buying something fills a need versus a want, and if it’s in the want column, I keep moving and don’t purchase. It isn’t enough. My cars are paid off. I have a few credit cards with modest balances. I’ve had to, in the last month, figure out how to cover down over $10k of unexpected expenses. It shouldn’t cost $8k for a dental device to help correct TMJ. That’s a topic for a different post.

Are you in the top 20% or slogging away with the remaining 80% trying to get by?
